Dorchester County, South Carolina (WCSC) – Dorchester County is building a new 1,300-acre industrial park in St. George on Wednesday.
After about 15 years of construction, the project has been named “Port 95 Business Park” to emphasize its proximity to I-95, the primary distribution route for imported goods arriving at the Port of Charleston.
The Port 95 business park will cost $100 million and will have three spec buildings, meaning developers are not building it specifically for clients, but renting it out.
One of the three buildings is very large, covering nearly 1 million square feet, said Dorchester County Economic Development Director John Truluck. It will be the largest specification building ever constructed in Dorchester County.
Truluck said there is a shortage of product in the county, so building this business park will help them achieve their goal of bringing new companies to the area and local jobs. The county believes that creating more jobs where people don’t have to commute should help address I-26 congestion.
“It’s great to have a concept map on paper, but seeing the site cleaned up and seeing the construction equipment move is another thing entirely. Then the next stage is seeing the building vertical, so that’s always exciting to me. Excited because you can say it’s not an idea anymore, it’s a reality,” Truluck said.
The county is excited to move forward with this project, let the company know they have a product coming soon, and let the community know that work is coming.
The construction of the site is underway, and the 95 Port Business Park is expected to be completed in 2024.
The groundbreaking ceremony begins at 2 p.m. at 4826 Route 78 in St. George.
