WhatsApp outage: Thousands report unable to use messaging app | Tech News

Users across the UK are unable to use WhatsApp, with thousands reporting being unable to send or receive messages.

Downdetector, which tracks outages, said more than 12,000 issue reports had been submitted as of 8:30am, with the issue first detected before 8am.

However, because of the way the site collects data, the number of users experiencing issues can be much higher.

Many people on social media platforms like Twitter complained that the app didn’t work.

Users found that while they could open the app and access their conversations, it was unable to deliver new messages or send any messages successfully.

Many users displayed a persistent message at the top of the app saying it was “connecting” to the server, but then couldn’t seem to connect.

A spokesperson for Meta, the platform’s parent company, said: “We know that some people are currently unable to send messages, and we are working hard to restore WhatsApp for everyone as soon as possible.”

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging platforms in the UK and globally, with an estimated over 2 billion active users worldwide.
