Twitter’s head of trust and safety has reportedly resigned from the social media company.
Ella Irwin told Reuters she had resigned shortly after Fortune reported that her internal Slack account appeared to have been deactivated.
Ms Irwin oversees content moderation – a contentious topic for a company that has been criticized since billionaire for failing to protect harmful content Elon Musk October takes over.
Soon after Musk took office, he fired half of the company’s 8,000 employees, including about 15 percent of its trust and safety department.

Under Musk, there have been mixed efforts to moderate inappropriate and inaccurate content.
He has been promoting a new feature called “community annotations,” which allows users to provide additional context to tweets in response to disinformation.
But he also changed the verification system of the platform so that Blue tick is now subscription onlynot a mark of authenticity or popularity.

In December, he oversaw the Disbanding Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council – An advisory group of nearly 100 independent civic, human rights and other organizations was formed in 2016 to address hate speech, child exploitation, suicide, self-harm and other issues on the platform.
In the months under Musk’s leadership, some Twitter advertisers have pulled away, fearful of being seen with inappropriate content.
Mr Musk Announced in May that he had hired former NBC Universal advertising executive Linda Yaccarino Become the new CEO of the company.
He hopes the 60-year-old’s background in advertising will come in handy as they try to lure advertisers back to the platform.
