BLUEFIELD, Va. (WVVA) – Last week, Grind Coffee Shop in Bluefield, Va., released an open letter to the community regarding their withdrawal from the town’s Industrial Development Authority’s 103 Spring Street location.
In the letter, the company claims that numerous problems have caused them to no longer wish to operate their business outside the building. Including power issues, collapsed patios, confusing leases and overcharged electricity bills from vacated suite partners.
Today, the Town of Bluefield responded to some of the claims in the open letter.
The Town said The Grind’s claims about vacant suite companions and overcharging electricity bills were “incorrect!”, with a statement claiming that the businesses that had left were still located in the building and that The Grind’s large electricity bills were due to late fees. The town also said that The Grind’s lease was never changed or changed on a monthly basis, as claimed in the company’s open letter.
Grind claimed the building had electrical and structural safety issues, which the town did not acknowledge in their letter.
