Ray’s Sausage celebrates its 7th year despite a tough PR patch

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Ray’s Sausage has been an institution on Cleveland’s Eastside for decades, but about 10 years ago, it was believed that its sausage factory was emitting an unpleasant odor, and it turned out that the stench came from next-door serial killer Anthony Solway Bury buried the bodies of 11 of his innocent victims.

Misguided skepticism drives people away from the business, but enough loyal customers keep pouring in to keep the business going.

Today, Ray’s Sausage celebrates its 70th anniversary. In fact, it needed more space to meet its growing nationwide demand for its products.

Renee Cash is the second-generation owner of the business she took over from her late father and now runs the business with her daughter Lesli Lester.

“We need a bigger facility because we’re the USDA. We’re not in a location right now that can accommodate the products we want to make. We do it every day, but we don’t do it enough.”

They believe in the staying power of quality products and long-term customer bases that follow decades of tradition.
