After Devin Booker’s whirlwind offseason, the Phoenix Suns guard kept his cool during a media day press conference and wanted to make sure everyone knew him and the team’s attention was on the court superior.
Booker’s storied summer began on July 7, when it was announced that he would stay in Silicon Valley for at least another four years, signing a contract with Phoenix up to $224 million, his first with the club since being drafted in 2015. Second renewal.
“I mean, it’s just this city, this team, this organization, that believed in me from the beginning and locked it in for longer. You know, not only a commitment to the organization, but also to what I’ve been doing for a long time. The commitment to being involved in this community I call home … my family is excited and I hope the same is true for this city,” Booker said Monday.
That same day, Booker was announced as the cover athlete for NBA 2K23. He made sure to let everyone know he was excited.
The avid gamer and part-time Twitch streamer understands the value of Phoenix having its first cover athlete. Its impact may go beyond the gaming community.
“All of this stuff is beautiful, especially the 2K cover… how much I played growing up just learning about the impact of video games and the impact it has had on multiple countries and the world,” Booker said. I’m glad Can put Phoenix on the map. “
What followed was a flood of Kevin Durant trade rumors that saw various teammates get sent away for the superstar forward. None of those rumors came to fruition, and Booker appeared to favor keeping the team the same.
“He’s one of the best players in this game,” Booker said of Durant.
“But you know, I’m happy with the foundation we have here. We’ve shown commitment, we’ve shown what we’re capable of. We’ve got chemistry, we’ve had experience and years together, we’ve been through a lot Happening.”
Keeping his family close both on the court and in life is what Booker thinks keeps him grounded in the excitement surrounding the superstar.
“I can see them [family] Every day I live my life growing up in Michigan and Mississippi. It’s a great feeling to have a core unit that stays with you and keeps you humble. “
