PHOENIX — Phoenix police say they have seized more than 1,000 guns and made more than 1,000 arrests in three months as part of an ongoing operation.
Action to Fight Gun Crime was launched in July 2022 to remove crime-related firearms from the streets.

Earlier this summer, Phoenix police said gun homicides were up 45 percent from the same time last year. Serious assaults using firearms rose 23 percent over the same period.
The Phoenix Police Department reportedly seized 1,181 firearms citywide and made 1,114 arrests in connection with those firearms.
“It is important to emphasize that the firearms seized are directly related to the crime or taken from the prohibited owner,” the department said. “This enforcement is not about taking firearms from legal, responsible gun owners. .”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office support expanded operations to further help curb gun violence in Phoenix.
