Missing student’s body found on Lake Orlando

The search for a missing middle school student in Fairview Lake ended in heartbreaking fashion after an Orlando fire report found a body at 5:15 p.m. Friday. The student was thrown into the sea while rowing on the lake with four other middle school students on Thursday night. Another child was taken to hospital. In the end, the three students were able to go home to be reunited with their families. A flower memorial has been growing outside the North Orlando Rowing Field throughout the search. As the five-person team practiced rowing on Fairview Lake before sunset, reports of lightning strikes were reported in the area. The boat capsized. WESH 2 learns that the missing student attends the Catholic Academy of the Annunciation. The school principal sent an email to families on Thursday night saying they would be adding additional counsellors to the school on Friday to support students and staff. North Orlando Rowing declined to speak to WESH 2, but posted a message on Facebook that read: “The rowers, their families and the North Orlando Rowing coach are all devastated. As a team, we are as good as ever. We are working hard to resolve this issue. We don’t know all the details; we will share when we know more. We ask for privacy and respect during this difficult time.” Officials have not released information about the situation of the students who were taken to the hospital.
