Knoxville’s small businesses prepare for Small Business Saturday

KNOXVILLE, TN (WATE) – The holidays are officially upon us, and businesses are seeing an increase in store visits as we get closer to Christmas.

Small businesses have their own day between Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, encouraging people to shop smaller and shop locally. These business owners are grateful for the notoriety they have received.

“It means everything to our business,” said Union Ave co-owner. Book Flossie McNabb says. “People are supporting small businesses and local businesses all over downtown Knoxville. We’ve been looking forward to this day.”

Businesses like Glitterville love meeting new people during the holiday season and say they are lucky to have their own fan base.

“We have a very devout fan base,” says Glitterville creator Stephen Brown. “People from all over the world come to this little store in Knoxville, which is fun because a lot of what we do is collected by people. It’s fun to see the excitement that people get when they walk in.”

These small businesses depend on the community to stay afloat for any length of time, which is why it’s so important to them that people shop locally and in small stores.

“We count on you,” McNabb said. “We always have something unusual here that you might not see in a big store.”
