Taylor, Texas (KLTV) — With just over a month away from his re-election bid, the governor of Texas. Greg Abbott visited East Texas Wednesday afternoon for a roundtable discussion with regional business leaders. Abbott moderated the discussion at Preferred On-Site Fleet Services along SH 31 East in Texas, just outside of Taylor.
“I’m traveling around Texas for business roundtables like this, where I can hear directly from local business leaders about the challenges they face, whether it’s supply chain challenges or insufficient workforce education to work for them right away,” Abbott said in a statement. said in a brief press conference after the roundtable.
Abbott took something away from the conversation: the importance of enabling Texas students to succeed in the real world.
“Ensuring that students graduate, whether in high school or college, with real-life skills that they can use and apply. Not with thousands of dollars in debt because they can’t find a job.”
With the general election almost a month away, we asked Abbott whether his visit was for a campaign or for official business as governor.
“That’s it,” he said. “First of all, I’m a governor 24/7. And, I’m running for re-election. So I need to point out to Texans what we’ve accomplished for them, making Texas number one for business, increasing more than the nation in the past four years More jobs than any other state, and a reminder of how this could all be undermined if someone came into office that undermined the policies that made Texas business-first.”
Abbott’s visit to Taylor is open only to those invited to the roundtable, members of the media and those working in the hosting business. Legislators like state legislators. Cole Hefner (R-Mount Pleasant) and state Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler) was also in attendance.
