Fire damages businesses in Baraga County | News, Sports, Jobs


BARAGAG — A Baraga County business suffered extensive damage from a fire Friday morning.

A fire broke out at Carla’s Inn and Restaurant in Keweenaw Bay around 1:30 a.m., the Michigan State Police Calumet Post said in a release.

Both lanes of U.S. Route 41 were closed until about 5:20 a.m. when one lane reopened. Traffic will remain in one lane until further notice, MSP said Friday afternoon.

MSP firefighters were called to the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Keweenaw Bay Tribal Police and Baraga Village Police assisted the police. Responding fire departments included Keweenaw Bay, Baraga, L’Anse, Aura, Arvon Township, Chassell, Pelkie, Otter Lake and Laird. Gulf Ambulance Service also responded.
