Jonesboro, Ark. (KAIT) – New video from the Jonesboro Police Department shows a blaze that caused intense flames and explosions in the early hours of Wednesday morning, destroying a Jonesboro business.
Dozens of firefighters put out the blaze near the Jonesboro Police Station near the intersection of East Matthews and Callaway.
Kustom Kreations is a custom car shop owned by Lavelle Johnson and his family.
Johnson has worked hard to build his business from scratch for the past nine years, but following Wednesday’s tragedy, the lives of Johnson and his family have been completely changed.
“You know why, I was on the street, but I wasn’t on the street, so why is it,” Johnson said.
Fire crews were dispatched to a fully involved structural fire around 3:00 p.m. There were still cars in the store at the time, but no one was in the building.
Johnson and his family not only lost their business, but also their fellow members of the family in the fire.
“My dog died here,” Johnson said. “We treated the dog like his family,” said Kustom Kreations employee Kaleb Valentine.
Repairing cars is not only a profession, but a hobby for Valentine.
“This is where I go every day, from dawn to dusk,” Valentine said.
The store may have been lost entirely, but Valentine didn’t hold back or let the bumps in the road slow him down.
“I go with the flow and nothing can stop me,” Valentine said.
Lavelle, who started the company in 2013, said it was his dream to open a custom car shop, so he did it. After the fire, he was left with only one option.
“I’m looking for another store right now, that’s not going to stop me, I’m going to keep going,” Johnson said.
According to the Jonesboro Fire Department, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the fire is still under investigation.
We will post information about this tragic fire as it becomes available.
