Celebrating 10 Years of Small Business Saturdays in Western New York

More than 30 million businesses across the country are participating, according to the federal government’s Small Business Administration.

Buffalo, N.Y. — The small business was packed with shoppers Saturday at the McKinley Mall’s indoor vendor’s market.

“It’s done well for me. I have absolutely no complaints,” Tis the Season New York owner Valerie Eddy told 2 On Your Side. “It helps support one business at a time. It keeps the economy going and keeps us united.”

Melanie Klaja of Hamburg added: “Walking down the aisle, I can’t believe how much choice there is for everyone and family. For me, I don’t have much time to come to one place and pick out different things for those special people in your life. It’s unique to people, and I think it’s the perfect place to be.”

But there are plenty of other places to shop in small shops, including some brand new places.

Revolver Records opened its fourth location in East Aurora on Friday.

“The response so far has been overwhelming. Very positive. A lot of people are excited about our arrival, we’re really happy to be here,” Phil Machemer of Revolver Records told 2 On Your Side.

From Elmwood Avenue to the Buffalo Holiday Market, Buffalo continues to do what it does best: serve our neighbors.

“There’s enough business for the big stores. When it comes to a small town, you have to make sure you support local businesses,” says Buffalo’s Nakia Hock.

Jillian Cannan of Buffalo Holiday Market added, “It’s incredible. Buffalo won’t disappoint, that’s for sure.”
