SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — A small business-focused event is back in Sioux Falls for the second year in a row.
Nearly 100 small business owners are setting up shop at the WH Lyon Fairgrounds to celebrate Junkin’ Market Days.
“These small business owners sell all types of merchandise, so they have boutique clothing, candles, home decor, repurposed items, gourmet food, so there’s a lot of variety here,” said Kerry Bamsey, owner of Junkin’ Market Days.
Kerry Bemsey owns Junkin’ Market Days. The campaign, which began last year in Sioux Falls, has expanded to six cities in three states, starting with Fargo, North Dakota, and Rochester, Minnesota.
“I had a lot of women asking me at that time, can you teach me how to do it? So, since then, I’m mentoring seven other women and teaching them how to bring this concept into their communities,” Kerry said. Bamsi said.
“A lot of people are trying to get out of the business world, the corporate world, and start their own small businesses,” said Dan Bamsey, owner of Bam Bam BBQ Sauces.
Kerry’s husband Dan is one of many suppliers. He’s been making sauces for decades, but only started bottling Bam Bam BBQ Sauces just over a year ago.
“Just got a lot of recommendations and everyone was calling me before and after graduation, could you make me some BBQ sauce for the holidays, so I decided to bottle it,” Dan Bamsey said.
“Junkin’ Market Days includes small businesses from six states and is expected to attract thousands of visitors from around the world for some holiday shopping.
“Money is tight for a lot of people, but people also have the foresight and they know they want to support small business owners and locals, not wait until the last minute, buy from a big box store and wait for it to ship, so there’s going to be a lot of people going to Do your holiday shopping at this event,” said Kerry Bamsey.
Junkin’ Market Days runs in the Expo Building until 8:00 pm on Friday and from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday. Admission is $5.
