Locals named to board: The board of Team NEO, a private nonprofit economic development organization in Northeast Ohio, has elected six new members, three of whom have ties to the Mahoning Valley.

The trio are Robert Davis, president, Aqua Ohio Water and Wastewater Utilities, Essential Utilities Inc.; James Gasior, senior executive vice president and corporate development officer, Farmers National Bank; and Charles T. George, Hapco Inc. , CEO of Strangpresse and Triptech.

Davis leads the strategy, operations and administration of Aqua Ohio’s 33 water and five wastewater treatment facilities, which serve approximately 500,000 residents. He previously served as director of the Warren Water Division.

Gasior served as president of Cortland Savings and Banking Company prior to its merger with Farmers National Bank in 2021. He is also a member of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber Board of Directors.

In 2007, George became CEO and majority owner of Hapco Inc., the world’s largest independently owned supplier of industrial heat tools and extrusions. He is also CEO of Strangpresse, which manufactures extrusion heads for the additive manufacturing industry; and CEO of Triptech, which produces thermoplastic filament and welding rods for the oil and gas, textile, 3D printing and additive manufacturing industries . He also serves on the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees and various other community organization boards.

EGCC Program Funded: The Eastern Gateway Community College campuses in Youngstown and Steubenville have been funded through the Regionally Aligned Skills Transfer Priorities (RAPIDS) grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education.

The $224,000 grant will partner the Youngstown campus with Youngstown State University, while the Steubenville campus will partner with Belmont College, Washington State and Zane State University to improve the local workforce.

Both campuses are purchasing equipment for health care programs that affect job shortages in Ohio and the Mahoning Valleys. The educational manikin will be used in several programs such as EMT/EMS, Medical Assisting, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Radiology and Respiratory Therapy.

Financial Seminars Available: Ohio Credit Union is offering several free virtual seminars this week.

On Wednesday at noon, a short workshop will help attendees understand how credit cards work, including important information about the different types of credit cards, minimum payments, finance charges and how to learn about hidden fees.

On Wednesday at 6pm, there will be a workshop to learn how to choose personal health care and insurance.

On Thursday, there will be content on Medicare to explain the different options and answer questions. it is noon now.

EGCC Grads Earn Perfect Marks: Eastern Gateway Community College Spring 2022 Youngstown and Steubenville Practical Nursing graduates passed the National Board Licensure Exam with a 100% pass rate.

Entry into the field of practical nursing requires passing an exam.

EGCC’s one-year Practical Nursing certificate program prepares students to specialize in providing basic essential care to patients.

LPNs work in long-term care facilities, acute care, home health care, and doctors’ offices.

Law Firm Joins: Akron-based Brouse McDowell with offices in Youngstown, Ekker, Kuster, McCall & Epstein has announced that attorneys from Ekker, Kuster, McCall & Epstein will join Brouse McDowell on January 12. 1.

Combined firm will operate as Brouse McDowell LPA and will add eight attorneys, bringing it to nearly 90 attorneys across six offices, four of which are in Ohio – Akron, Cleveland, Toledo and Youngstown — as well as Sharon in Pennsylvania and Naples in Florida.

Foundation Pledges $50,000: The Mahoning Valley Community Foundation will resume its month-long “Giving Tuesdays” campaign, which will contribute up to $50,000 to its institutional fund.

Beginning on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29, through the end of the year, all donations to any of the foundation’s institutional funds will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,000 per fund. At the end of the campaign, any remaining funds from the $50,000 grant will be distributed to all nonprofits that received donations, whether it’s one or 100.

Last year’s matching campaign generated $76,048 in donations and $47,226 in matching dollars to 15 institutional funds, resulting in $123,274 for Valley nonprofits.

New CEO Pick: GBS Corp, a national information solutions provider with offices in Youngstown, recently announced that it has named Michele Benson as the company’s new CEO, effective January 1. 1.

As Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of GBS, Benson has held various roles and responsibilities during her 28 years with the organization.

Benson, who has been with GBS as an accountant since 1994, will lead the planning, development, implementation and direction of GBS’s operations and finance functions and performance as Chief Executive Officer.

GBS CEO/President Eugene Calabria will continue in this role until his retirement in December. 31.

JP Schippert was appointed chief financial officer in July, replacing Benson.

Attorney joins firm: John Martynyszyn has joined Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell Ltd. as an associate attorney. He will support the company across multiple business areas in Warren’s office.

Martynyszyn recently graduated from Capital University School of Law in Columbus after earning an undergraduate degree from Ohio University in Athens. He is a Howland resident.

Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell LLC is a regional law firm with offices in Youngstown, Warren and Salem.

FARMERS FORTIFIES DIVISION: Farmers National Bank recently welcomed two new hires, Raymond Mahoney and Michael Mariano, to the treasury division as assistant vice presidents and account Manager.

In these roles, Mahoney and Mariano were responsible for developing strategies for managing and growing Treasury Management’s client relationships.

Mariano is a professional with 15 years of experience in the banking industry, with management experience in retail banking. Prior to joining the Farmers team, he worked as a branch manager for a regional bank. He works at the Niles head office of the bank.

Mahoney has 11 years of banking experience, most recently as a payments advisor for Elan Advisory Services and as a branch manager for a national bank. He works at the bank’s Hudson office.
