An American helps start a business in China. The client wants him to leave.

Jacob Rothman spent 20 years building a Chinese manufacturing business with his friends and family. Now, the 49-year-old American executive says clients want him to make some barbecue tools and kitchen products elsewhere. He knew it wasn’t easy.

“There’s not a single customer who doesn’t pressure us, suggest, want us to build factories outside of China,” said the co-chief executive of Weilong Enterprises Ltd, which has six factories in mainland China and serves large corporations.retailers and consumer brands such as walmart Companies and Grill Manufacturers Weber The company, however, “has nothing like China,” he added. “We’ve built this supply chain for 30 years and it works like a Swiss clock.
