7 Spotlight: Guilty Chocolate Cake Business Takes Off – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

(WSVN) – Whether it’s chocolate, blonde, red velvet or PB&J, Crisite Besu has a golden touch when it bakes brownies.

Cristie is the founder and CEO of Eat Me Guilt Free, a South Florida company specializing in “better for you” baked goods.

The idea started a few years ago when Cristie was working as a nurse and sports nutritionist. Her clients always ask how to satisfy their sweet tooth cravings without feeling guilty.

Cristie Besu: “That’s when I started to realize that there really isn’t anything on the market quite like baked goods.”

So Christy went to work in her kitchen.

result? Brownies made with protein powder and other healthy ingredients.

Cristie Besu: “So I had to use protein to make it taste good and have the right texture, so it was a little tricky.”

Once Christy came up with the right combination, her chocolate cake business took off. It moved from Christie’s home kitchen to a commercial kitchen.

As her kitchen got bigger, so did her tastes.

Cristie Besu: “We always have five core flavors, and usually there are three other ones that are seasonal or come in and out.”

That’s not all.

Cristie has developed more baked goods!

Eat Me Guilt Free recently expanded its product line to include tortillas, bread and even cake mixes.

Cristie Besu: “It’s really very similar to the traditional, like eggs and oil and a mixture, and then you’re done.”

Eat Me Guilt Free products are available online at Vitamin Shoppe and GNC nationwide as well as at walmart.com and Amazon.

Cristie Besu: “We are slowly but surely leaving our footprints.”

But that wasn’t enough for Christie.

She is determined to help other women realize their dreams of owning a business.

She initiated the “You Glow Girl” grant. It supports aspiring entrepreneurs with a $10,000 reward.

This year’s winners are creators of new dating and social apps.

Cristie Besu: “It’s not just a $10,000 prize or a grand prize. It’s a bit more comprehensive. We support their mental and physical health throughout the year.”

The “You Glow Girl” grant has received hundreds of applicants and Cristie is looking forward to more.

She also expects Eat Me Guilt Free to continue to grow.

Christie Besu: “I mean, I see it disrupting the food industry because, you know, it’s not just about making things that are delicious and healthy, and I find what makes us a little bit different is that we seem to be attractive power to the masses.”

Thanks to the sweet success she’s already had, she’s on her way.
